  • Google's social search

Not only is Google the most used search engine, but it also the second one thanks to the acquisition of Youtube.

Google cannot afford not to innovate with Microsoft' Bing which could soon be very competitive.

So Google's innovation is to let your social circle help you in your on-line researches. When you make a query, Google will propose some links according to your friends on-line activities.

The future of browsing according to Mozilla

Are you happy with your browser? Do you actually know what you could expect from it?

It seems that Mozilla is still trying to improve its navigator. Sure the foundation succeed in acquiring a lot of new users. But this is not over for the second most used browser.

Here is the vision from Azarask. Quite interesting...

    Windows 7 is out!

I was so excited about the release of the newest version of Windows. With the mess created by Vista, I was quite skeptical about how Microsoft would react.

Some friends of mine who work at Microsoft told me this OS was terrific (while recognizing that Vista was a failure). I didn't know what to expect. It seems that there isn't a lot of new features. But it is supposed to be more reliable and more user friendly.

Never mind, Windows is now available in stores. You can buy it on Amazon or in other retailers.

Apple's reaction to benefit from the release of Windows 7

There were some rumors about how Apple would react with the launch of Microsoft 7. It's a very strategic time for Apple, since a new version of Windows means that a lot of people will change their computers.

So the whole blogosphere was kind of anticipating Apple's move. As usual Apple did all its work without letting anyone know what would be their products.

So what did they do? Basically Apple renewed many products: the iMac, the MacBook, the Time Capsule, the Mac Mini, the remote and the mouse. That's a lot of products, but the only real innovation comes from the magic mouse. Will that be enough compared to Windows 7?

    Sony' PS3 new motion controllers

After the success of Nintendo's Wii thanks to the experience provided by its controllers, the other competitors try to innovate in the same direction.

Microsoft seems to have an incredible concept with its Project Natal. The project Natal will allow people to use their Xbox thanks to their body and voice.

Sony's Motion controllers aren't that promising. Yet it shows that Sony cares about the gaming experience. Play Station shouldn't be left behind.

Sony can't afford to have a product that isn't on top of its competitors. Hence, Sony's positioning in the electronic devices is to deliver better, safer and more reliable products and services and they charge premium for that. So, the Play Station have to be the best game console.

10/gui: how to buzz with a bigger track-pad

Ok, I might be a little too sarcastic on this title. This article is just a continuation of the article about Microsoft new mice.

There isn't any breakthrough innovation in 10/gui. But there are many good ideas. As Apple did on its new laptops, the idea is to enlarge the track-pad and use a multi-touch interaction. Here the device is designed to be used with 10 fingers.

As explained on the video, then they developed con10uum, an operating system that will enable the user to have a full benefit from 10/gui.

    Innovations in on-line ad creations

As mentioned in a previous article, it's often hard for publishers to meet their expected revenues. It seems the medium is still under-evaluated.

Fortunately there are some creative brains out there to find solutions. The main problems with on-line ads is that it should be very visible to be worth a lot of money, while be comfortable enough to preserve user experience.

Piximedia, a French company, has found an interesting way to promote a brand smartly. The idea is to have a video in background. The web surfers cannot miss it, but yet they can still use the web site comfortably if they aren't interested. The only issue in this case in the sound. It should be turned off in the beginning in order to be less intrusive.

    Microsoft new mice

Microsoft seems to consider that today the machine-human interactions aren't satisfactory. Hence, they have many different projects the enhance the usability of computers or entertaining devices. The Natal Project could bring a lot for that (see the article).
But Microsoft has also many projects for new mice. Forget the old device as you can see above. Microsoft has developed many prototypes which are supposed to completely change the way to use a computer.

Google wave: a new way to communicate

Google goes on in its strategy "We develop tools as they should be now, not as they used to be 10 years ago". After the web browser Chrome and the news that they are building an opertating system (see the article), Google just released an alpha version of Google Wave.
Wave is a new way to communicate and share anything in real time. It can interact with most social networks platforms. It supposed to replace the "old" e-mail system. I let you see their short video presentation.

Tablets PC a market with high potential and competition?

It's often hard to understand how some devices take so much time to get a high market. Sometimes prices are too high, sometimes it needs partners...

The case of tablets PC is different. It's still a low market, but it should rise really fast between Christmas and spring 2010. Microsoft has already announced the release of courier, a double screen personal assistant (see video) and there are rumors that want Apple's next release to be a tablet (the iPad ?). The website iLounge created a buzz by around it. I think it might be the first time Google isn't competing officially with Microsoft...
